Alcohol and Drug-Free Residential Living
The Women’s Oxford House Planning Committee is pleased to announce the opening of the Stevens Point Women’s Oxford House in November, 2010 with its new charter name: River Point Oxford House. The River Point House will provide a much needed housing option in this area for women who are in need of an alcohol and drug-free living environment and pro-social networks. The River Point House now has official charter status with the national non-profit organization Oxford House, Inc.
Oxford House is a concept in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Oxford House, Inc. is a non- profit national organization that supports democratically run, self-supporting alcohol and drug free homes for those in recovery. Oxford House, Inc. – the umbrella organization of individual Oxford Houses in states across the nation has provided advisory support for the two charter houses in Stevens Point: the Riverside Oxford House for men in recovery established in 2005 and the River Point Oxford House for women in recovery established in 2010.
Organization of the Oxford House charters in Portage County has been made possible with assistance and contributions from many community volunteers and local community agencies. The current working community of the River Point House for women is made up of volunteers affiliated with a wide-range of non-profit and faith-based organizations.
Riverside House
The organization of Oxford House chapters in Portage County: the Riverside Oxford House for men and the River Point Oxford House for women, grew out of a need to respond to individuals recovering from substance abuse addiction who desire to maintain an alcohol and drug-free living environment. Both residences operate under Oxford House (link this to the Oxford House, Inc. national website) principles to provide a democratically run, self-sustaining environment for those men and women who are in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction.
