Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration

Martin Luther King Jr Day Community Celebration 2019

The evening opened with a welcome by SPASH Principal Dr. Jon Vollendorf and a few impressive student leaders of the cultural responsiveness group.

The Pacelli Concert Choir provided music including the National Anthem; the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing; and a beautiful rendition of U2’s MLK.

Dan Barth was honored with the John Klismet JusticeWorks Award, presented by retired circuit court judge, Hon. Frederic Fleishauer.

The stirring and thought-provoking keynote address titled Equity Before Equality was provided by Arnitta Holliman. A licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience in social service, corrections, and higher education instruction, Arnitta earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology and Law Studies, and a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology from Marquette University. Arnitta is also the Sisters Program Director at the Benedict Center. Under Arnitta’s leadership, the Sisters Program opened a second drop-in center, and increased the entire program’s capacity to serve women in the street-based sex trade and sex trafficking. Arnitta oversees the program’s direct services and advocacy for women, while working in partnership to effect systemic change to create more equitable and effective ways to help women in the sex trade.
