JustRun2010 Half-marathon, 10K and 5K Run/Walk FAQ
Q: What’s new with for the JustRun2010 Run/Walk this year?
This year, we will continue to upgrade our greening of the race with eco-friendly event standards. By our example, we hope to encourage other special event organizers to follow suit.
Examples of green event standards:
- Posters and flyers printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. This year, our race brochures printed through Dolce Digital Imaging & Printing use recyclable paper and a chemical-free press that conserves water and keeps chemically-tainted water out of water treatment systems.
- Use and promotion of organic, locally grown food and fair trade coffee in collaboration with our event sponsors.
- Use of biodegradable/compost-able cups, dinnerware and other service items.
- Recycled-content paper cups or napkins.
- Trash, recyclables and compost receptacles on-site.
- Organic t-shirts

Pre-race registration packet pick-up and spaghetti dinner location change from Pfiffner Park building to Emy J’s Coffeehouse

Move of the half-marathon walk start to one hour before half-marathon run start. This will allow the bulk of the run/walk participants to finish together.
Your support from participation in this event is two-pronged: along with restorative environmental standards in event organization, the proceeds from the event also support restorative justice services in Portage County.
Please register your support for this effort by participating in the run/walk as a volunteer, race participant or fundraiser (see Run for Restorative Justice ). We appreciate your help.
Q: What’s back from last year?
- Comedy duo and race commentators Dennis and Paul. Both runner/comedic race commentators were sidelined last year with running injuries but only with respect to their limbs and not their vocal chords. So, while not in medal contention for the JustRunGreen event or the 2012 Olympic track and field or marathon trials, Dennis and Paul are in competitive form for race commentary and runner/walker interviews at our 2010 event.
- Live performance of the National Anthem
- Trumpet processional to the start line: After a triumphant appearance by trumpet virtuoso Bob Kase last year, we are continuing with the fine tradition of live music at the JustRun2010 Half-Marathon, 10K and 5K event, including trumpet fanfare start and live music on the course.
- Portage County Emergency Medical Rapid Response Unit: We are grateful for the support of the emergency rapid response unit for those who run (pun-intended) into problems on the course. For the aging baby-boomer crowd, we are working on dispensing pain medication and amphetamines on the course, hip-resurfacing surgery and wheelchairs at the finish-line. However, we haven’t quite got the legal and medical technicalities worked out so, in the meantime, we will continue to guarantee plentiful Powerade and water along the route.
- Competitive chip timing
- Emy J’s refreshments at the finish line
- Pre-race community spaghetti dinner and Free Suzuki Stroll Kids’ 1/4 Mile Run
- Pre- and post-race goodies, prizes, live music on the course and special VIP treatment of runners and walker
- Chocolate-chip cookie station at half-way points on the half-marathon and 5K route for walkers (and brave runners)
- Post-race Point Rootbeer and finish-line refreshments from area restaurants
- Race participant room discounts from Green-Certified Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center of Stevens Point, 1001 Amber Avenue, Stevens Point 715-344-0200
- If you have any race announcements you would like everyone to hear as you or your favorite runner/walker crosses the finish line, please send comments to Katherine.Munck@Justiceworksltd.org with topic line: Justiceworks Run Commentary. Suggestions: race accomplishments, birthday or anniversary announcements etc. We’ll pass this information along to our race announcing crew.
We strive to meet the standards of world-class marathon (professionally organized) events through the hard work of our special race volunteers and organizing committee.
If you have any suggestions or questions, please feel free to call 715- 344-3677 or e-mail Katherine.Munck@Justiceworksltd.org.
