Family Law Assistance Project

Now offering pro se assistance state-wide, JusticeWorks Ltd. launched the Family Law Assistance Project in November 2017 after 10 years of successful operation of the Family Law Information Center serving Portage County.

The majority of divorces filed with the Clerks of Court offices around the state list no attorney for either involved party. In these cases, called pro se divorces, individual litigants represent themselves in family law proceedings without legal assistance. Statewide court statistics demonstrate a dramatic increase in pro se proceedings.

Access to justice should not be determined by limited finances. As a non-for-profit organization, JusticeWorks utilizes a sliding fee scale to determine fees based on an individual’s ability to pay. Project staff will provide more information about fees during the initial inquiries.

Call or email the JusticeWorks’ office to set up your initial consultation. At this initial meeting, you may be provided with the Justiceworks Pro Se Guide and court forms. The JusticeWorks Pro Se Guide contains step-by-step process information, definitions of basic family law legal terms and testimony guidelines. Our experienced and well-trained staff  assist individuals with legal matters pertaining to family law issues but does not give legal advice to any individual.
